Never look at all those circles the same way again! Join us as we explore in depth how (and why) correct arena geometry can improve your riding skills, and help your horse become a better athlete. This clinic is for anyone who wants to get the most correct work from your horse, regardless of whether you plan to show or not.

You will receive 3 hours of classroom instruction (evening of Friday 6/7) and one day of mounted instruction with each rider getting a 45-minute private lesson (Saturday 6/6).

Auditors are welcome to attend both sessions, and will be actively included in all activities!

Those who are not yet members of RMDS Foothills Chapter are welcome to join us for an additional fee of $10.

DETAILS:
DAY 1 - UNMOUNTED SESSION: Friday June 7th 5-8pm
Review arena geometry and learn how it relates to the training scale. Small group and hands-on activities will make this a dynamic session where all participants work together to learn! This session will be held in the Table Mountain Ranch lounge and dressage arena. A pot-luck style dinner will be provided.

DAY 2 - MOUNTED SESSIONS: Saturday June 8th 8am-6pm
Participants and auditors will apply knowledge from the unmounted session during the mounted portion of the clinic. Riders will work on improving their dressage basics, figures and test movements while auditors will be encouraged to actively develop their eye and provide feedback. Learn more exercises and strategies to improve your horse’s suppleness and strength, as well as your dressage scores!

You will leave with a new appreciation for geometry, dressage figures, and a their relationship to the training scale. You will also gain a better understanding of how to school your horse effectively and improve your dressage scores with better accuracy!

ABOUT JOAN CLAY
Joan Clay is a United States Dressage Federation (USDF) Certified Instructor/Trainer as well as a USDF Bronze and Silver Medalist. Joan has won numerous USDF and Rocky Mountain Dressage Society (RMDS) championships and year-end awards over the course of her showing career. She is also an RMDS Technical Delegate and the USDF Region 5 FEI Junior/Young Rider Coordinator. Joan also volunteers as a Chef d’Equipe for Region 5’s dressage teams at the North American Junior Young Rider Championships (NAJYRC).

Joan’s dressage training philosophy follows the classical dressage training scale with an emphasis on strong basic skills for both the horse and rider. She works hard to understand each person’s riding goals and works to meet the needs of the horse/rider combination in order to make progress towards those goals. Joan tries to help each rider become self-sufficient in accomplishing their goals by giving them the tools and strategies they need to improve their ability to ride and improve their own horse. While her primary area of expertise is in the dressage ring, she welcomes students whose interests lie outside of dressage and has worked with students who participate in eventing, hunter/jumper, ranch versatility, endurance and basic pleasure riding.
