Work with an experienced International Grand Prix trainer who will expertly guide you through the process

Kim is an accomplished international Grand Prix rider and trainer that works with all levels for horses and riders in her Bit Consultation Clinics. Her experience as a rider, trainer and USDF L Judge brings a unique set of skills to the bit fitting and trail process. She often uses exercises that help the rider feel the subtle differences in bits.

What to expect: Kim will bring a variety of snaffle, double bridle bits and jumping bits to the clinic for participants to try during their sessions. She will measure the mouth and look at the overall anatomy of the mouth and watch the horse go under saddle then work different bits. The goal is to find the bit that the horse is most comfortable in and the horse demonstrates this pretty clearly.

Bits: We fit the leading brands and bring many samples for you to try. These bits are innovative and are designed with the comfort of the horse in mind. We are able to order any bit carried by these manufactures in the US.

Tips: Please make sure your cheek piece and rein buckles are clean and pliable. This makes changing bits easier. Bring a halter to take your horse back to the barn in when finished with your session.

Organizer Notes

Clinic Format:
Kim watches each rider begin to warm up normally in their regular bridle and bit(s) and evaluates how the horse responds to the pressure from the bit(s), bridle and rein aids. Once she gets a "read" on what is going on, the fun begins! She will introduce new bits and possibly a bridle change based on the horse's mouth conformation and habits. Then the rider gets to play with the new toys providing Kim with valuable feedback along the way of how the changes feel in the reins. Kim then correlates what the rider says with what she sees from the horse as she continues through her decision-tree until she finds the right combination that is comfortable for the horse. Sometimes this process takes only 20 minutes, sometimes it takes an hour, it all depends on the the particular situation.
