2018 Mid-Atlantic Equitation Festival Scholarships
$6500 in Scholarship Awards

In the spirit of serving the equestrian community, the Mid-Atlantic Equitation Festival (MAEF) strives to provide educational and scholarship opportunities to junior and amateur athletes.

The Mid-Atlantic Equitation Festival, Nov 15-18, 2018 will be held at the Show Place Arena at Prince George’s Equestrian Center at 14900 Pennsylvania Ave in Upper Marlboro, MD.

The scholarships are made possible with the generous support from:

Scholarship #1
$ 3000 MAEF R.W. Mutch Scholarship
First place $ 3000

Registration opens 9/1/18 and closes 11/14/18 at 5pm

Open to all MAEF exhibitors 21 years of age and under as of 12/1/18 entered in a Sunday class.

The candidate’s written Horsemanship Exam score is combined with their two top ride scores from Friday and Saturday competition. (Team class, Schooling, and Warm up classes excluded). The highest score will determine the winner. In the event of a tie the ride scores will take precedence. Test information is at the end of scholarship information.

The award presentation takes place after the Young Rider Championship on Sunday. The Application fee is $ 40 excluding a $2.99 processing fee.

$ 3000 Maryland Horsemanship Scholarship
First place $ 2000
Second place $ 1000

Registration opens 9/1/18 and closes 11/14/18 at 5pm

OPEN TO THE PUBLIC, including MAEF exhibitors 21 years of age and under as of 12/1/18. Any and all equestrian enthusiasts are encouraged to apply.

The candidates will take a written Horsemanship Exam. The six top scoring individuals will proceed to a practicum of general horsemanship knowledge conducted by a veterinarian and an industry expert. The practicum will take place Saturday November 17 from noon until 3pm. In the event of a tie the practicum score will take precedence. Test information is at the end of scholarship information.

The award presentation takes place prior to the Team Class on Saturday

The scholarship application fee is $ 30 excluding a $2.99 online convenience fee.

$ 500 MAEF Merit Based Scholarship
First place $ 500

Registration opens 9/1/18 and closes 11/14/18 at 5pm. Essay questions MUST be submitted to maefmary@gmail.com no later than 10/31/18 at 5pm.

OPEN TO THE PUBLIC including MAEF exhibitors 21 years of age and under as of 12/1/18.

The scores from the written Horsemanship Exam will be combined with the score received from two essay questions. These essay questions MUST be submitted to maefmary@gmail.com no later than 10/31/18 at 5pm. The essay question options can be found in the posted file “2018 Merit Scholarship Essay Instructions.pdf”. Test information is at the end of scholarship information.

In the event of a tie the essay score will take precedence.

The award presentation is prior to the evening Team Class on Saturday. There is no scholarship application fee.

MAEF Undergraduate Horsemanship Practice Exam
First Place - Ribbon and special recognition

Registration opens 9/1/18 and closes 11/14/18 at 5pm

This practice exam is open to any and all equestrian enthusiasts 14 years of age and under.

The intent is to provide a scholastic introduction to those wishing to pursue written Horsemanship Exams in the future.

The Undergraduate Practice Exam consists of fifty multiple choice questions and is given at the same times as the regular Horsemanship exam. Test information is at the end of scholarship information.

Special recognition will be given prior to the evening Team Class on Saturday There is no application fee.


SCHOLARSHIP NOTES

▪ The application period for all scholarships open 9/1/18 and closes 11/14/18 at 5pm.
▪ High school students are encouraged to apply and the award will be held in escrow. Scholarship funds will be distributed upon acceptance and enrollment in an accredited college, university or vocational institution.
▪ The award expiration date is December 1 of the year the winner reaches 22 years of age.
▪ The award will be used solely for educational purposes and will be made payable directly to the educational institution for the student.
▪ Acceptance of the scholarship award constitutes permission to use recipient’s name, biographical information and photos for publicity purposes.
▪ Scholarship Application and processing fees are non-refundable.

HORSEMANSHIP EXAM NOTES
▪ The Horsemanship exam is 100 multiple choice questions, College level
▪ The Undergraduate Horsemanship exam is 50 multiple choice questions, Pony Club D & C level
▪ The exam is taken once and applies to respective scholarships
▪ Exam may be taken at either session below

Administrative Information

  • Trailer Direction: Conveniently located near two of the metropolitan area’s major arterial roadways – the Capital Beltway (495/95) and U.S. Route 301 – the venue is just 16 miles from the White House.Directions From Washington, DC:
    From the Capital Beltway (I-495), take Exit 11A, for Route 4/Pennsylvania Avenue South/East. Follow Route 4 South for seven miles to the Upper Marlboro exit. At the stop sign at the end of the exit ramp, turn right and enter The Show Place Arena property.
    From Baltimore:
    Beltway (I-695) take Exit 4, for I-97 South for Annapolis/Bay Bridge. Continue on I-97 to Exit 7, MD Route 3 South. At Bowie, Route 3 will become Route 301 South. Continue on Route 301 South to the exit for Route 4 North/West, towards Washington, D.C. From Route 4, take the first exit for Upper Marlboro. At the stop sign, turn left and enter the Arena property.
